The Los Angeles Dodgers (92-50) have gotten back on track with a four-game winning streak following a three-game skid, and now they welcome their biggest rivals to Dodger Stadium for a weekend series.
The San Francisco Giants (67-73) have seen their postseason hopes disappear due to a recent slide, and they will enter Dodger Stadium as +225 road underdogs (bet $100 to win $225) on the MLB odds for Friday’s opener at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The Dodgers are coming off a three-game sweep of the Colorado Rockies, outscoring the National League West’s worst team by a dominant 28-15 margin. Two of the three games finished OVER the total, according to the OddsShark MLB Database. The OVER also improved to 6-2-1 in Los Angeles’ last nine games, with the team going 6-3 during that period.
The Dodgers had dropped three straight to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the midst of that stretch before rallying to take four in a row going into this weekend’s series.
Meanwhile, the Giants are heading in the opposite direction, losing eight of their past 10 games along with 12 of 16 to put them six games under the .500 mark for the first time since July 14. They were just blanked in two of four games versus the St. Louis Cardinals, including an embarrassing 10-0 defeat on Thursday as +175 road dogs at online betting sites.
San Francisco has also lost the previous three meetings with Los Angeles and five of six in the series dating back to June 8. However, the Giants won three of four matchups between the teams prior to that, so there is some hope that they can break through again with Jeff Samardzija (9-11, 3.61 ERA) toeing the rubber.
Samardzija has allowed one run or less in six of his past eight starts but has a 2-3 record to show for it. He did have his worst start of the season last time out though, surrendering six runs and nine hits in 5.1 innings of an 8-4 loss to the San Diego Padres on September 4.
The Dodgers counter with ace Clayton Kershaw (13-4, 2.96 ERA), who has suffered consecutive defeats following a personal six-game winning streak. Kershaw has gone 9-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 14 home starts, including a win over San Francisco on June 18 when he pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out six batters in a 9-0 victory.
