Giants’ Alex Wood Excited To Face Dodgers At Dodger Stadium

After going two and a half months without playing each other, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are now set to face off for the second time in as many weeks.

The Dodgers begin a seven-game homestand against the Giants on Thursday, only four days removed from completing a sweep of their longtime rival at Oracle Park.

The series opener in San Francisco saw L.A. defeat a familiar face in Alex Wood, who enjoyed two different stints with the organization from 2015-18 and 2020.

The left-hander spoke highly of his time with the Dodgers and is now looking forward to returning to Dodger Stadium as a member of the Giants this weekend, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Getting to throw against them for the first time in a really long time, it’ll be special,” Wood said. “And it will be nice to have the first one in San Francisco and to have Giants fans at home, then go there the next week — that place has a really big place in my heart. I invested a lot of my time and blood, sweat and tears into that organization.”

“It takes a lot to be able to put a ring on your finger and bring a championship back to your city. A lot of things have to go right,” Wood said. “Hopefully, there will be a lot of love, even though I’m in a Giants uniform. “I’m very much looking forward to this weekend. You know the Giants and Dodgers will always have a competitive series. I’m excited to see the other side of the rivalry, for sure. It’ll be a blast.”

Wood will get a second crack at the Dodgers in Thursday’s series opener. He allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings of work with eight strikeouts against his former team last week.

L.A. hasn’t announced their starting pitcher, but it will be a bullpen game for them regardless of who opens.

Giants-Dodgers starting pitcher matchups

Looking ahead to the rest of the series, Friday’s matchup between the Dodgers and Giants will feature a starting pitcher matchup of Walker Buehler and Anthony DeSclafani.

Julio Urias will oppose Tyler Webb on Saturday, and Sunday’s finale presents a duel between Clayton Kershaw and Kevin Gausman.
