The Los Angeles Dodgers won a fifth consecutive National League West title this season, extending their franchise record. Prior to the current stretch, which began in 2013, the team had not won the division more than three years in a row.
Several records fell in 2017, including the 104 wins that were the most since the franchise relocated from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. Also, the Dodgers’ 57 wins at Dodger Stadium stand as their most in a single year.
The 1953 Brooklyn team, who won the NL pennant, holds the organization’s all-time record with 60 home wins. The 1980 and 2015 Dodgers each won 55 games at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers had six players hit at least 20 home runs, another first for the organization, and set a new franchise record for collective doubles hit by the team.
They went into the postseason with the best record in baseball and home-field advantage through the World Series. They faced the Arizona Diamondbacks, who reached the NL Division Series by way of the Wild Card Game.
Although some pegged the Diamondbacks as a dark horse to upset the Dodgers, they were swept in the best-of-five series. The Dodgers advanced to the NL Championship Series for a second consecutive year and fifth time in the past decade.
In a rematch of the 2016 NLCS, Los Angeles entered play Thursday night one win from reaching the World Series for the first time since 1988. The Dodgers’ six straight wins to begin the playoffs set a franchise record and tied for the third-longest streak in MLB history.
Should Los Angeles advance to the Fall Classic, they would face the Houston Astros or New York Yankees.
