Gavin Lux Thanks Dodgers Organization After Trade To Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers alleviated a logjam in their infield by trading Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds for prospect Mike Sirota and a competitive balance pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.

It marked the end of era for Lux, who was selected by the Dodgers with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.

The 27-year-old established himself as a top prospect in the Dodgers farm system and eventually went on to assume a regular role at the Major League level.

Lux reflected on his time with the Dodgers and thanked the organization for helping him realize his dream of playing in the Majors.

“Thank you to the entire Dodgers organization for taking a chance on an 18 year old kid from Kenosha, Wisconsin and letting him live out his dream of playing in the big leagues and winning a World Series…,” Lux wrote in the Instagram caption.

“To the entire front office, the staff, and most importantly my teammates I had a chance to play with the last 9 years, I will cherish our time forever! And thank you to the fans for all the support through the ups and downs, and supporting me throughout my rehab process, it helped me more than you’ll ever know!

“That being said I’m excited for the marathon to continue with the @reds and being apart of a talented group, LFG!”

The 2024 season was a mixed bag for Lux, who missed the previous year while recovering from a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.

Lux was projected to be the Dodgers’ starting shortstop, but struggled at the position in Spring Training and ultimately moved over to second base.

Lux also did not fare well at the plate, but to his credit, turned things around after the All-Star break. After posting a .599 on-base plus slugging percentage in the first half, he hit an excellent .304/.391/.508 the rest of the way.

Lux is now slated to fill a utility role with the Reds, where he’ll have an opportunity to build on his late-season success in his first full year removed from knee surgery.

Gavin Lux’s career with Dodgers

Over parts of five seasons with the Dodgers, Lux hit .252/.326/.383 with 62 doubles, 14 triples, 28 home runs and 155 RBI in 412 games.

Lux’s final at-bat with the Dodgers was a game-tying sacrifice fly that also advanced a second runner who later scored the game-winning run on Betts’ fly ball in Game 5 of the World Series.
