Although the Los Angeles Dodgers previously faced the Cincinnati Reds this season, Gavin Lux needed to wait until Monday night to receive his 2024 World Series ring.
Lux expressed an understanding of that moment not being held until the Reds played at Dodger Stadium, and he looked forward to sharing it with Dodgers fans. Lux was drafted by the Dodgers in the first round in 2016 and went on to become the top prospect in baseball before making his MLB debut.
Lux’s Dodgers career included winning two World Series before he was traded to the Reds during the offseason.
“I love Gavin, and I do think it’s best for him that he moved on and started a new chapter in his career,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said prior to Monday’s game.
“But it’ll be good to see him, and he’s having a nice year.”
Lux went 1-for-2 with a double and one walk before being replaced by a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning.
The World Series ring ceremony included receiving a gold Dodgers jersey and cap, as Lux was surrounded by his former teammates. The Dodgers also played a tribute video that included several of Lux’s top highlights during his five seasons with the team.
Gavin Lux helped Dodgers win World Series
Lux’s final at-bat with the Dodgers was a sacrifice fly that pulled them even with the New York Yankees in the eighth inning of Game 5. Mookie Betts then provided L.A. with a decided lead.
“At that point time, he wasn’t swinging the bat great, but he had a big sac fly in that game, and then he had a walk,” Roberts recalled.
“So we needed every bit of that. Gavin, even when we were struggling last year after the break, or right into the break, he was the one that was carrying us, hitting in the three, the four hole, and really picked us up big time.
“He helped us win a championship and I’m always going to be grateful.”
