Gavin Lux returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers this year after missing the entire 2023 season due to a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee.

Lux endured some early struggles but eventually got back on track and helped the Dodgers win their second World Series title since 2020.

Lux celebrated his 27th birthday on Saturday in his hometown of Kenosha, Wis., and received a present that he won’t forget anytime soon.

Kenosha mayor David Bogdala and city official Samantha Kerkman designated Nov. 23 as Gavin Lux Day in Kenosha County.

“Welcome home! It’s great to have you back here,” Bogdala said. “The City of Kenosha is extremely proud of you and we love everything that you’re doing. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and your family as you continue on this journey, but just always know your roots are here, Kenosha is always here for you, we’re always going to be here for you no matter what happens. We love you. Welcome home.”

Lux was honored during a ceremony at Indian Trail High School, where he received a coin with the seal of the city and a Kenosha pun. “It’s a huge honor for me,” Lux said.

“I love Kenosha, I love the people here. I can’t wait to keep coming back and giving back.”

Lux graduated from Indian Trail High School and was selected by the Dodgers with the 20th overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.

He has spent parts of five seasons with the Dodgers and is already a two-time World Series champion.

Gavin Lux 2024 stats

Lux was poised to enter the 2024 season as the Dodgers’ starting shortstop, but he struggled at the position in Spring Training and ultimately moved over to second base.

It also took some time for Lux to get comfortable at the plate, but he turned things around after the All-Star break and emerged as one of the Dodgers’ most reliable hitters.

In 139 games, Lux batted .251/.320/.383 with 24 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 50 RBI across 139 plate appearances.
