Gavin Lux, Dave Roberts Wanted More But Content With Dodgers’ Road Trip Record

The Los Angeles Dodgers started their road trip by sweeping the Cincinnati Reds behind performances from their lineup that prompted manager Dave Roberts to declare it was the best series the offense has had this season.

Some of that momentum stalled against the Atlanta Braves, but the Dodgers still won two of three games at Truist Park. But then came more struggles at Coors Field, where the Dodgers needed a win Wednesday to avoid being swept by the lowly Colorado Rockies.

L.A. bounced back from consecutive losses to defeat the Rockies, with Gavin Lux tying for the team lead with two hits.

While Lux acknowledged the Dodgers didn’t put their best foot forward in the first two games against the Rockies, he considers a 6-3 record on the road trip a success, via SportsNet LA

“I think we could’ve played better here the first two games, but overall it’s a long road trip. It’s kind of a grindy road trip, so I think 6-3 is OK. But we could’ve played better, for sure.”

Roberts echoed much of Lux’s sentiment as the Dodgers now begin an 11-game series with a highly-anticipated series against the San Diego Padres:

“Positive road trip; 6-3, obviously you want to get greedy and win more. But considering where we were at [Tuesday] night, I’ll take a 6-3 road trip. A lot of good things. I think [Wednesday] was a good sign offensively. Looking forward to getting home and we have a big series at Dodger Stadium.”

With Wednesday’s win, the Dodgers still have not been swept at Coors Field since September 2015. However, they are just 2-4 in the Rockies’ home ballpark this season. The teams will quickly meeting again when a three-game series begins at Dodger Stadium on the Fourth of July.

Dodgers in standings

With a successful road trip behind them, the Dodgers return home 1.5 games ahead of the Padres for first place in the National League West. They additionally have one fewer loss than the New York Mets and thus the best record in the NL as well.
