Garrett Crochet Trade Rumors: Dodgers Unwilling To Include Dalton Rushing & Top Prospects

The MLB trade deadline came and went with a plethora of deals, but one player who did not change teams was Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet.

There was a sense that the left-hander would be moved as the sides have not been able to reach a contract extension. However, there were complications for a trade as Crochet made it clear he wanted to remain a starter for the rest of the season despite already more than doubling his previous career high in innings and he sought an extension in order to pitch in the playoffs.

The White Sox’s asking price was also said to be astronomical as they sought multiple top prospects in exchange for Crochet. According to Jack Harris of the L.A. Times, the Dodgers were hesitant to trade their top prospects, including Dalton Rushing:

Mostly, though, the White Sox were driving a high price, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, desiring top prospects, such as catcher Dalton Rushing, that the Dodgers were reluctant to include in the deal.

Rushing is currently ranked the top prospect in the Dodgers farm system by MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old is having an excellent season with Double-A Tulsa, hitting .260/.370/.473 with 15 doubles, 13 home runs and 51 RBI through 72 games.

The Dodgers made multiple attempts to acquire Crochet, but clearly weren’t comfortable parting with Rushing, who could be a part of their future or potential trade down the line.

Other Dodgers prospects the White Sox presumably may have targeted are River Ryan, Josue De Paula and Jackson Ferris.

L.A. ultimately addressed their rotation by trading for Jack Flaherty, sending prospects Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney to the Detroit Tigers.

In addition to acquiring Flaherty, the Dodgers completed a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays for Kevin Kiermaier on deadline day.

Earlier in the week, the club landed Tommy Edman and Michael Kopech in a three-team swap with the St. Louis Cardinals and White Sox. L.A. also reacquired Amed Rosario in a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays.
