With the 2020 Major League Baseball season in the rearview after the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series, the offseason is now officially underway.

That not only means that free agency is taking place, but it also MLB’s award season. One of those is the annual Silver Slugger Award and the winners were announced this past week.

The Silver Slugger is handed out to the top offensive player at each position in both the National League and American League. Among the recipients was Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts, who had an outstanding first season with the team.

Betts was also recently named one of the three finalists for NL MVP due to his contributions on both sides of the ball. Betts was already recognized for his defense, winning his fifth career Gold Glove award, and now he is awarded his fourth career Silver Slugger for his offensive contributions.

In 55 games, Betts hit .292/.366/.562 with 16 home runs, 39 RBI, 47 runs scored and 10 stolen bases, catalyzing a Dodgers lineup that was the best in baseball.

Betts was the only Dodger to take home a Silver Slugger, although Corey Seager also had to have received some consideration after batting .307/.358/.585 with 15 home runs and 41 RBI.

He wound up losing out to San Diego Padres breakout star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who hit .277/.366/.571 with 17 home runs and 45 RBI.
