Kendrick broke the tie with a two-run triple that got by a diving attempt from Kole Calhoun. The triple was just Kendrick’s second extra-base hit of the season. Stripling induced a double play in the bottom of the third after Escobar led off the inning with his second single of the game.

That proved key as Stripling then hung a 3-2 curveball to Trout, who hit a solo home run that cut the Dodgers’ lead to 3-2. Pujols doubled down the third base line on a grounder that skipped off Justin Turner’s glove on his diving attempt.

Although it wasn’t another impressive diving catch, Puig covered plenty of ground to get to a fly ball in shallow right field to end the inning. Puig then hit a two-out single in the fourth inning, but was stranded as Carl Crawford grounded out.

Stripling retired the Angels in order in the fourth inning, the first time on the night he managed to do so. An Utley leadoff walk and Turner base hit quickly put two runners on with no outs in the fifth. Kendrick battled back from a 1-2 count to draw a walk that loaded the bases with one out.

Jose Alvarez replaced Chacin and got Pederson to hit a grounder up the middle, but he beat the throw to first base to avoid hitting into an inning-ending double play. A run scored on the play, and the Dodgers took a 4-2 lead to bottom of the fifth.

Anaheim loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth behind a leadoff single and pair of one-out walks. Stripling struck out Pujols on three pitches, but then plunked Cron on the left wrist to bring a run in.

Chris Hatcher replaced Stripling and promptly gave up a two-run single to Giavotella. After the Dodgers went down in order in the sixth, Carlos Perez led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run to extend the Angels’ lead to 6-4.

Gregorio Petit followed with a double and Escobar’s base hit put runners on the corners with no outs. Hatcher struck out Calhoun on a high fastball, then gave way to Joe Blanton. Trout hit back to the box, but beat the Dodgers’ double play attempt to bring a run in on the force out.

Anaheim went on to beat the Dodgers, 7-4, taking three of the four games in the Freeway Series.
