Freddie Freeman is a National League All-Star for the 10th time in his career, and this is the sixth consecutive time he’s been on the team.
Freeman has been an All-Star in all five seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he will be starting for the sixth time in his career, three of which have come as a Dodger.
Although Freeman is now a regular at the All-Star Game, he still appreciates the opportunity to be honored with a selection to the event.
“It’s a lot. It really is. These two days are a lot going on,” Freeman said. “But to try and take a step back and realize the guys in the clubhouse, the first timers, you don’t want to be that old guy who thinks it’s not cool to be here anymore.
“It really is special to be here. It’s an honor, especially when the fans vote you in. So try and take it all in and try and create the memories with the boys.”
Some players around the league decide to back out of the All-Star Game or don’t put much stock into the event. But for Freeman, it’s an opportunity to spend time with his children.
“So I’ve already done filming a commercial this morning, so there’s a lot going on in these two days,” Freeman said. “But it’s more for my oldest son is over there, and then my other kids will be on the field for the Home Run Derby. It’s more of just creating memories. You never know when it’s your last one. So to create more memories with my kids.”
Freeman added: “There’s no comparison to being a dad. It’s the greatest thing in this world. I think everyone knows I’d choose that over baseball in a heartbeat. Being a dad is my fulfillment. A couple more years of this baseball thing, and I get to be a full-time dad.”
Charlie Freeman is often near his dad’s side, and that’s been no different at the All-Star game. Freddie said Charlie has been collecting baseball cards recently, and the All-Star Game has given him a unique opportunity.
“He’s already gotten a bunch of the players to sign his baseball cards,” Freeman said. “So for me, it’s about memories, and my other two boys will be on the field for the Home Run Derby tonight. So that’s what makes it exciting for me.”

At 36 years old, Freeman doesn’t have many All-Star Games left. He’s already openly discussed his retirement plans, and he has no intentions of playing into his 40s.
But for now, Freeman is still among MLB’s best hitters, and he’s not going to take the All-Star Game for granted.
“Try to enjoy as much as you can,” Freeman said. “You never know when it’s your last one, but we’re having a good time so far.”
