Freddie Freeman: Los Angeles Dodgers Lineup ‘Getting There’

The Los Angeles Dodgers lineup scored just 11 runs over three games at Coors Field, and their inability to fully take advantage of opportunities played a part in dropping the Opening Series to the Colorado Rockies.

There were more mixed results against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, as the Dodgers again relied on one big inning to come away with a 7-2 win at Target Field. L.A. went 5-for-18 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11, but did draw two walks.

They notably left Gavin Lux on base after his two-out double in the third inning, Freddie Freeman’s leadoff extra-base hit in the fourth, and Chris Taylor’s two-out triple in the seventh.

While recognizing a need to still find consistency, Freeman expressed confidence the Dodgers lineup collectively is rounding into form, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“Well, you know what it’s capable of,” Freddie Freeman said of the offense’s sporadic appearance this season. “It’s been four games. We’ve done it in a couple innings. We need to spread it over a couple more so our hitting coaches don’t have a heart attack, you know what I mean?

“We’re getting there. The ABs were good tonight. A lot of walks. A lot of take the balls, swing at the strikes. Positive things are happening. … The gate’s about to open.”

If there’s a silver lining for the Dodgers, their six-run eighth inning being built behind consecutive walks by Mookie Betts and Freeman. Good fortune was on their side when Trea Turner hit a chopper to third base that got by Luis Arraez to bring in the go-ahead run, and after Max Muncy’s walk loaded the bases, Justin Turner delivered an RBI single.

Then on Wednesday, the Dodgers scored at least one run in four different innings to back seven perfect innings from Clayton Kershaw. Freeman was part of that, going 2-for-5 with a double.

Taylor: Dodgers lineup ‘best in baseball

Chris Taylor was among those to note the Dodgers needed to improve their play after losing two of three to the Rockies, and in expressing that sentiment he referred to the team’s lineup as the “best in baseball.”
