The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves in the finale of their four-game set at Truist Park, salvaging a series split.

In a repeat performance, the Dodgers scored nine runs for the second straight game with a 9-0 victory on Monday. A common denominator between both teams was the number of hits.

For the Dodgers’ offense, they amassed just four hits, but plated nine runs. Looking at the Braves, their four hits amounted to a shutout loss.

After the game, Freddie Freeman noted how unusual the outcome and credited the Dodgers for coming through in their opportunities: Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“I’ve played a long time and that was probably one of the weirdest offensive games I’ve been a part of,” Freeman said of the Dodgers’ nine runs on just four hits. “Every walk it seemed like we cashed them in. Great at-bats by our guys all nine innings today.”

Entering the seventh with a 2-2 tie, Braves reliever Daysbel Hernández walked the bases loaded with one out, opening the door for the top of the Dodgers’ lineup to put the game out of reach. From there, Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Teoscar Hernández and Freeman all drove in runs to put the game out of reach.

Freeman made the Braves pay for the seven walks Braves’ pitchers allowed and clubbed a game-sealing three-run homer.

The Dodgers ended up scoring nine runs on four hits for the second time since 1906. The other instance also happened against the Braves in Atlanta on June 4, 2021.

What’s next for the Dodgers

Starting on Tuesday, the Dodgers open a three-game set with the Miami Marlins. Still up 3.5 games in the National League West, their status in the division is in a solid place, but they’re still vying for one of the top seeds in the NL.

Following their series with the Marlins, the Dodgers have a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies in Dodger Stadium. A crucial, soft spot in their schedule before they match up with the San Diego Padres starting Sept. 24 that is sure to have hefty implications.
