The Los Angeles Dodgers had three players named to the 2023 MLB All-Star Game as starters for the National League, which included Freddie Freeman at first base, Mookie Betts in the outfield and J.D. Martinez as the designated hitter.
Following the announcement of the All-Star Game starters, the Dodgers took the field and dominated their way to a 14-3 victory in their series finale against the Colorado Rockies. Betts then was at the center of L.A. starting their series against the Kansas City Royals with a win.
Freeman credited Betts for setting the tone for the offense while thanking the fans for supporting the team with their All-Star Game votes, via SportsNet LA:
“It starts with Mookie. Mookie started it off with the first at-bat. We do appreciate it, and I want to say thank you to Dodgers fans and baseball fans for voting for us. So thank you very much. Mookie starts it. When he doubles off the wall and we’re able to get him in, that’s huge to get a run after a couple-hour delay.
“J.D. has been swinging the bat well all week, and pretty much since he came off the IL, really. It was just a good overall performance by everyone, not just us three. Max got a couple hits and Miggy hit an RBI triple. It was just a good game for the Dodgers.”
Betts, who started the past two games at shortstop and second base despite his All-Star election as an outfielder, has tied the Dodgers franchise record with nine leadoff home runs this season.
The 30-year-old is hitting .270/.370/.553 with 22 home runs, 55 RBI and 64 runs scored across 78 games so far this season.
Jonas Brothers visited with Mookie Betts at Dodger Stadium
While the Dodgers were taking batting practice prior to a game against the Houston Astros last weekend, they were accompanied by the Jonas Brothers making a visit to Dodger Stadium.
Although Kevin, Joe and Nick only watched batting practice during their stop in L.A., it included a chance to speak with Roberts for an extended period of time. Betts also came over for a brief discussion and Martinez introduced himself as well.
