Freddie Freeman Confident In Dodgers Despite Lackluster MLB Trade Deadline

The Los Angeles Dodgers were one of the busiest teams in the final week leading up to the August 1 trade deadline as they added five players to their roster.

The club addressed their need for a right-handed hitter by bringing in Kiké Hernández and Amed Rosario, and further bolstered their pitching staff with the acquisitions of Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly and Ryan Yarbrough.

“I think we feel pretty good,” Freddie Freeman said of the Dodgers’ trade-deadline moves. “We added five guys over the last week, and a lot of them have contributed. We feel good, we love our team.

“We had a first-place team going into the deadline, and we’ve got a first-place team coming out of the deadline. We like what we’ve got in this clubhouse.”

Despite making the majority of their trades last week, the Dodgers continued to pursue upgrades until the 3 p.m. PT deadline on Tuesday.

Prior to landing Yarbrough, L.A. reportedly was in the mix for Justin Verlander, and they also had a deal in place to acquire Eduardo Rodriguez before he invoked a no-trade clause to remain with the Detroit Tigers.

“I don’t think there was that much chatter about the deadline going on in our clubhouse,” Freeman said when asked if there’s a sense of clarity now that the trade deadline has passed.

“I got here pretty early and was throwing BP in center field to my kid, so I didn’t really see much chatter. But we’ve got who we’ve got now, we like who we’ve got. We’ve got a good group of guys and good chemistry.”

Dodgers trade deadline day

In addition to acquiring Yarbrough, the Dodgers traded Justin Bruihl to the Colorado Rockies, dealt Eddys Leonard to the Tigers, and sent Phil Bickford and Adam Kolarek to the New York Mets on deadline day.
