Freddie Freeman Booed By Blue Jays Fans In Ryan Reynolds’ SickKids Campaign Fundraiser

Actor Ryan Reynolds, popular for his role as “Deadpool,” is in a seventh year of wearing an ugly Christmas sweater as part of campaign to support Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, and its SickKids Foundation.

Reynolds recruited a fellow Canadian in Freddie Freeman for the campaign, which was unveiled over the weekend. The ad features Freeman walking into a hospital room and eagerly greeting young children. But given the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays, he’s treated to a rough welcome.

Freeman initially is ignored before introducing himself. “What a loser,” a child responds. Another then begrudgingly admits, “Trust me, man, we know who you are.”

That of course is in reference to Freeman helping the Dodgers outlast the Blue Jays in a thrilling World Series matchup. Freeman’s contributions included hitting a walk-off home run in the 18th inning of Game 3.

“You ruined everything!” another Blue Jays fan shouted at Freeman. He remained undeterred and closed with, “By the way, I love what you guys are doing here.”

Reynolds explained that he asked Freeman in March to participate in the campaign and quipped, “What are the odds?”

Viewers are asked to donate to the SickKids Foundation before midnight on Christmas Eve. An anonymous donor is matching all donations up to $1 million. This year’s Sweater Love campaign raises funds to support life-changing equipment at SickKids.

Prior years have seen the likes of Seth Rogen, Michael Bublé, Deadpool, Kidpool and Lynda Carter join Reynolds in raising awareness.

SickKids Foundation info

SickKids Foundation raises money on behalf of The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), and has raised more than $3 billion since 1972. It is the largest charitable funder of child healthcare, research and learning in Canada.
