Francisco Alvarez Believes Mets Lineup Is ‘Better Than’ The Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets represented the best that the National League had to offer in 2024. The two teams battled it out in the NL Championship Series for the right to face off against the American League representative in the World Series, which wound up being the New York Yankees.

The Mets put up a decent fight in the NLCS, but Tommy Edman and the rest of the Dodgers lineup was just too much to handle as they comfortably won the series in six games.

Both organizations went to work improving their rosters during the offseason in order to build upon what they accomplished last year. They were the two most active teams in free agency, with the Dodgers signing players at will and the Mets landing the biggest prize of the offseason, at least in terms of contract size, in Juan Soto.

With Pete Alonso now back in the fold as well, New York is hoping to continue the momentum they found at the end of 2024. And at least one member of the team is feeling confident about the talent that has been gathered in Queens, as Francisco Alvarez believes the Mets lineup is superior to the Dodgers, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post:

“I think we are better than the Dodgers (lineup),” Alvarez tells The Post.

Of course, discussing which offense will be better this season is all conjecture until the players step onto the field and produce.

But on paper and due to last year’s results, the Dodgers should be given the benefit of the doubt as the better lineup for now.

L.A. was the second-best offense in all of MLB in terms of runs scored and was the recipient of the NL team Silver Slugger Award in 2024.

The Mets weren’t too far behind when it came to producing runs, placing No. 7 on the list. The addition of Soto certainly figures to increase the offense’s capability to improve in 2025.

With the Mets’ signing of Soto, Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes expects to have a battle on their hands in the NL “for years to come.”

Dodgers and Mets matchups in 2025

The first meeting between the two teams since the NLCS is scheduled for May 23 at Citi Field. In total, the Dodgers and Mets will play seven games against each other across two series, with the final four meetings beginning on June 2 at Dodger Stadium.
