Former Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Zyhir Hope was the centerpiece of a trade package sent to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Tarik Skubal before the deadline passed.
Hope was the Dodgers’ No. 5 prospect and No. 25 overall while enjoying a fantastic season with the Double-A Tulsa Drillers. That included a stellar performance during July that was worthy of recognition, as Hope was named Texas League Player of the Month.
He joined Josue De Paula and Patrick Copen as Dodgers prospects to earn monthly league honors with the Drillers this season. It was the second award Hope has won this year. He was previously Texas League Player of the Week for June 30-July 5.
Hope batted .372 in July and led the league in runs (24), hits (35), home runs (10), RBI (28), total bases (70), slugging percentage (.745) and on-base plus slugging (1.184). Additionally, he finished second in batting average and was fifth in on-base percentage (.439).
The 21-year-old had 10 multi-hit games, including three multi-home run performances. In his final game with the Drillers on July 31, Hope went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI.
Hope was on pace to have an all-time single season performance with Tulsa. Among the records within reach were top-10 franchise marks for hits, RBI and home runs in a single season. He also had the chance to become just the fifth Drillers player to drive in 100 runs in one season.
Hope now joins the Tigers as the No. 2 overall prospect in their system, right behind fellow outfielder Max Clark.
While losing Hope stings for the Dodgers, they managed to hold on to their top-three ranked outfield prospects. De Paula (No. 1), Mike Sirota (No. 2) and Eduardo Quintero (No. 3) remain the future of L.A.’s outfield.
Kris Bubic expected to fill bullpen role
One of the Dodgers’ three other trade acquisitions was left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic from the Kansas City Royals. An All-Star last season, Bubic has not had the same success in 2026 and is currently on the 60-day injured list due to left elbow and left shoulder soreness. He has been inactive since May 18.
Despite Bubic’s health troubles, the Dodgers are confident in his ability to get back on the mound this year. A return at some point in late August is thought to be feasible.
However, Bubic’s role on the pitching staff will be that out of the bullpen.
