Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Lance Lynn announced his retirement on Tuesday after a 13-year Major League career.
Lynn spent the majority of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, winning a World Series during his rookie season in 2011 and making his first All-Star Game the following year.

He appeared in 10 games for the Cardinals during their championship run in 2011, posting a 3.27 ERA over 11 innings pitched. Lynn had a 3.41 ERA at the time he appeared in the All-Star Game in 2012. His second half of that season wasn’t quite as strong, as he finished with a 3.78 ERA, 3.49 FIP, 1.32 WHIP and 180 strikeouts in 176 innings for the entire year.
Lynn announced his retirement during an appearance on his wife’s show, “Dymin in the Rough Podcast:”
“Baseball season is upon, and I’m right here on the couch. And that is where I’m going to stay. So, there’s the update. I’m officially retiring from baseball right here, right now. But, there might be a little something fun around the corner, upcoming weekend. So stay tuned. But for Major League Baseball, I am done pitching.”
After bouncing around to four different teams from 2018-2021, Lynn earned his second All-Star nod in 2021 with the Chicago White Sox. He stuck around in Chicago until he was traded to the Dodgers at the deadline in 2023.
He was laboring at the time of the trade, with a 6.47 ERA in 119.2 innings. But with a massive need for starting pitching health, Lynn was the best the Dodgers could do in a limited market with inflated asking prices.
He had an ERA over four in his 11 starts following the trade, but provided the Dodgers bullpen and offense opportunities to win games. The Dodgers won nine of the 11 regular season starts Lynn made.
However, that success didn’t transfer to the postseason as Lynn was the losing pitcher in Game 3 of the National League Division Series as the Dodgers were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He only lasted 2.2 innings and allowed all four of the Diamondbacks’ runs.
Lynn was part of the Diamondbacks making MLB history as the first team to hit four home runs in one inning of a postseason game.
Lance Lynn career stats
Lynn accumulated a 3.74 ERA, 2015 strikeouts, 1.28 WHIP and 33 WAR in 2,006.1 innings over his career. He played for the Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, White Sox and Dodgers during that time.
There were reports of a potential reunion with the Cardinals for the 2025 season before Lynn announced his retirement.
