Former Dodgers Pitcher Julio Urías Reinstated From MLB Restricted List

Major League Baseball reinstated former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urías from the restricted list on Thursday. The left-hander is a free agent and intends to continue his career, though it’s not yet clear how realistic that is.

MLB’s suspension of Urías through the All-Star break this year was announced on March 21.

Urías was arrested in September 2023 after getting physical with his wife outside of BMO Stadium following a soccer match between Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) and Inter Miami.

Video of the incident showed Urías pushing his wife up against a fence and grabbing her before the two were separated by witnesses. Urías was charged with five misdemeanors by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office.

He pleaded no contest to one count of domestic battery, while the other four were eventually dropped. Urías was placed on probation for three years and entered a domestic violence treatment program in 2024.

Urías’ transgressions cost him significantly as he was poised to be coveted in free agency after the 2023 season.

Urías was previously arrested in May 2019 for alleged domestic violence, but charges were never filed. He nevertheless was suspended by MLB for 20 games that season.

The 28-year-old is the first player to be disciplined twice under MLB’s domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy that was established in 2015.

Julio Urías’ career with Dodgers

The Dodgers signed Urías out of Mexico at the age of 16 in 2012. He went 60-25 with a 3.11 ERA in 158 career appearances (122 starts) across eight seasons with the team.

Urías notably recorded the final out of the Dodgers’ World Series victory in 2020 and received votes for the National League Cy Young Award in both 2021 and 2022.
