FOCO released a new Los Angeles Dodgers bobblehead to commemorate Michael Busch hitting his first career home run. Busch accomplished the feat against the Cleveland Guardians on August 24.
That came two days after the Dodgers recalled Busch from Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding roster move to placing J.D. Martinez on the 10-day injured list because of left groin tightness. Martinez had dealt with lingering trouble in his groin/hamstring/adductor area for several weeks before landing on the IL.
Keeping Martinez on the active roster was all the more curious considering the success Busch was having with OKC. At the time of joining the Dodgers, he hit .343/.432/.686 with four doubles, one triple, six home runs and 16 RBI in 18 games during August.
Busch also had been named Pacific Coast League Player of the Month for July.
Busch went hitless in his first game with the Dodgers before contributing with the homer in the second contest of a doubleheader at Progressive Field.
The 25-year-old reveled in the career highlight and was all the more pleased his home run came in a Dodgers’ win.
Although Busch has put together a strong season at the Triple-A level, which prompted Dodgers manager Dave Roberts to say his latest promotion was more than deserving, it’s still come with somewhat sporadic opportunities.
Busch has appeared in 10 of the Dodgers’ 11 games since getting recalled, but only started six of them. His playing time has largely come as the designated hitter, which is a new role.
