Farhan Zaidi Grateful For Dodgers’ Interest But Still ‘Figuring Out’ Next Move

Farhan Zaidi served as Los Angeles Dodgers general manager from 2015-2018 before he left the organization to become president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants.

Zaidi spent six seasons in that role and led the team to some success, but was let go this past September despite having another year remaining on his contract.

The Giants replaced Zaidi with longtime catcher Buster Posey, who quickly made a splash by signing Willy Adames to a seven-year, $182 million contract — the largest in franchise history.

A recent report suggested that Zaidi could rejoin the Dodgers front office, but the former MLB Executive of the Year said he is still figuring out his next move, via the “Foul Territory” show:

“Having people reach out, connect, see if I was interested in coming on board, that’s been awesome. It reminds you of what a great family community we have in baseball. I have spoken to the Dodgers and I’ve spoken to some other teams. Still kind of figuring it out. Like I said, the person who really wants to have me figure it out is my wife, so I’ve got to get on that and get something done here pretty soon.”

If Zaidi does in fact find his way back to the Dodgers, a return to general manager can be ruled out as Brandon Gomes has served in that capacity since the 2022 season.

Prior to his stint with the Dodgers, Zaidi spent 10 seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. He started as a baseball operations analyst before being promoted to director of baseball operations and eventually assistant general manager/director of baseball operations.

With the Athletics, Zaidi’s primary responsibilities included providing statistical analysis for evaluating and targeting players in the amateur draft, free agent and trade markets.

He also assisted on arbitration cases and contract negotiations, and worked closely with the coaching staff during the season in analyzing data from advance scouting reports.

Zaidi’s peak with the Giants came in 2021, when they ended the Dodgers’ streak of National League West titles by finishing one game ahead of them in the standings behind a franchise-record 107 wins. However, the Dodgers then eliminated the Giants in the NL Division Series.

Farhan Zaidi’s career as Dodgers general manager

The Dodgers went an MLB-best 379-270 (.584) with Zaidi as their general manager, reaching the postseason in all four years and advancing to two World Series.
