Eric Thames Supplies Power For Brewers In Win Over Dodgers
Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

A 23-minute power outage at Dodger Stadium provided Kenta Maeda with a bit of a reprieve but it ultimately did little to slow the Milwaukee Brewers in their 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The loss spoiled Manny Machado’s first home game since being traded, though he did slug a home run.

Maeda failed to retire the first four batters faced, resulting the Brewers taking a 1-0 lead on Travis Shaw’s RBI single. To Maeda’s credit, he retired three batters in a row to limit the damage and leave the bases loaded.

He then worked a 1-2-3 second inning after the delay, and picked up two quick outs in the third before lightning struck. A walk and base hit led to an Eric Thames home run that extended the Brewers’ lead to 4-0.

Maeda allowed four runs on seven hits while issuing three walks and collecting four strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Although he wasn’t sharp, the Dodgers did little by way of providing run support.

They stranded at least one runner through the first (seven) innings and left the bases loaded in the third. Their lone run did come in that inning, however, when Max Muncy’s triple scored Machado from first base.

Yasmani Grandal and Cody Bellinger each worked walks before Chris Taylor struck out. The one run was all Freddy Peralta allowed, though he only went four innings, presumably in part due to a high pitch count.

Milwaukee tacked on an insurance run off Pedro Baez in the eighth to earn their second win in four head-to-head meetings thus far with the Dodgers this season.

Machado did hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth but the Dodgers otherwise had a quiet night, going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and leaving 11 men on base.
