Emmet Sheehan was named the Pacific Coast League (PCL) Pitcher of the Week for Aug. 17-23 after a dominant start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.
The right-hander collected nine strikeouts and allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston Astros’ affiliate). The start came on 10 days of rest after he briefly rejoined the Los Angeles Dodgers for their series with the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.
Sheehan did not pitch in Denver and was sent back to the Comets as the corresponding move to the Dodgers recalling Paul Gervase.
Since initially being optioned to Triple-A at the start of August, Sheehan has posted a 1.46 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with 17 strikeouts against five walks in 12.1 innings while holding batters to a .119 batting average.
He recorded only two outs in his first start with the Comets on Aug. 8, but the short outing had been planned by the Dodgers. He followed that up by throwing 5.2 scoreless innings against the Albuquerque Isotopes (Rockies’ affiliate) four days later.
Sheehan previously won PCL Pitcher of the Week from June 24-30, 2025. He is the fifth Comets player to earn weekly honors this season, joining James Tibbs (March 31—April 5 and May 25-31), Alex Freeland (May 11-17), Jack Suwinski (June 9-14) and Ryder Ryan (June 9-14).
Dodgers want Emmet Sheehan to get back on track
Sheehan has struggled with the Dodgers this season, going 4-8 with a 5.29 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 20 starts. Manager Dave Roberts recently remarked that he believed the 26-year-old needed to get back to simply pitching and not being consumed by velocity or mechanics when on the mound.
“I do think from the outset there was a lot of talk on his velocity, so I think that might’ve bled in a little bit to his North Star. Which some could debate that should be, some would say that shouldn’t be,” Roberts said.
“I just think this year, up to this point, it’s been very mechanics-driven. When you’re in the competition, the season, that quite frankly should be the last thing on your mind as a hitter or a pitcher. But that’s been forefront for him, so we’ve got to get him back to being an athlete, being in compete mode.”
It’s plausible that Sheehan receives another opportunity out of the bullpen over the final month of the season as the Dodgers prepare for the postseason.
