Edwin Díaz Placed On Injured List, Jake Eder Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers put Edwin Díaz on the injured list due to right elbow loose bodies and recalled Jake Eder from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Monday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

Díaz lands on the injured list after making just one appearance since April 10. That came Sunday afternoon, when his fastball velocity still was below career average and the right-hander failed to retire any of the four batters faced.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the loss there remained some concern with the three-time All-Star. Díaz was previously reported as dealing with a right knee issue that surfaced following his first blown save of the season.

Díaz’s knee trouble was also blamed for the early-season drop in velocity. It was part of a trend that the 32-year-old assured is par for the course since having right knee surgery in 2023.

Díaz now holds a 10.50 ERA, 4.96 FIP and 2.33 WHIP to go along with four saves in five opportunities this season. It’s not yet clear how long the Dodgers expect to be without their closer.

The team figures to further lean on Tanner Scott, Blake Treinen and Alex Vesia for the time being.

Jake Eder replaces Edwin Díaz

Eder is getting his first opportunity with the Dodgers since they acquired him via trade with the Washington Nationals at the start of April. Eder had been designated for assignment by the Nationals on March 28. Washington received cash considerations from the Dodgers in exchange for the left-hander.

Eder spent parts of the 2024 and 2025 seasons at the Major League level. Eder made his debut with the Chicago White Sox in 2024, but only appeared in one game. He then pitched in eight games for the Los Angeles Angels last year.

He was traded to the Nationals at the 2025 trade deadline, but quickly landed on the injured list and only made three Minor League appearances during September.

Eder pitched to a 3.38 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across three games for the Comets so far this season. He’s not fared well in the small sample size at the Major League level, accumulating a 4.87 ERA and 1.31 WHIP thus far.

Eder’s fastball averages only 93-94 mph, but he has elite extension on his release point, which makes the pitch appear faster to hitters. He also mixes in a slider, sweeper and changeup, throwing each of them roughly 20% of the time.
