Along with the hire of Stephen Nelson, it was confirmed Los Angeles Dodgers broadcasters Joe Davis, Orel Hershiser, Nomar Garciaparra, Eric Karros, Jessica Mendoza, Tim Neverett and Dontrelle Willis would be among those returning for the 2023 season.
Although not specifically named, John Hartung and Jerry Hairston Jr. presumably are part of the Dodgers noting the “rest of the star-studded SNLA broadcast team” is remaining in place this year as well.
Karros, Mendoza and Willis were part of new hires the Dodgers made before the 2022 season, and they went on to be part of broadcasts that drew rave reviews.
Karros, who is the L.A. Dodgers all-time home run leader with 270, called select home and road games alongside Davis on SportsNet LA. Karros additionally also appeared on “Leadoff LA” and the “Access SportsNet: Dodgers” pregame and postgame shows. He has been a baseball analyst on Fox since the 2007 season.
Mendoza also was an analyst in the SportsNet LA booth with Davis, working select road games. Davis and Mendoza were part of an emotional broadcast from San Francisco when Vin Scully passed away, and the two seamlessly guided fans through the game and an initial period of remembrance for the longtime voice of the Dodgers.
Mendoza has been an ESPN baseball broadcaster since 2007. In 2015, she became the first woman to serve as an ESPN analyst for nationally-televised MLB games.
Willis had been a studio analyst at Fox Sports since 2015 and was hired by the Dodgers in 2021 as a special assistant before joining the SportsNet LA broadcast team.
The former National League Rookie of the Year winner and two-time All-Star was an analyst for select road games and also appeared on “Leadoff LA” and “Access SportsNet: Dodgers” pregame and postgame shows.
Dontrelle Willis: ‘Dream’ working with Dodgers
When asked last season about his experience in the Dodgers broadcast booth, Willis told DodgerBlue.com it’s been a “dream.”
“I feel truly blessed to be a part of this organization,” Willis continued. “Joe Davis is one of the best game callers in all of sports, so I feel honored to be able to ride his coattail and really cover one of the best sports teams in the world.”
