The Los Angeles Dodgers completed an improbable comeback in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays to win the ninth title in franchise history and become back-to-back champions.
The Dodgers ended up winning 5-4 after 11 innings of play, but found themselves in a 3-0 hole early after a third inning homer from Bo Bichette. After the Dodgers battled for two runs, the Blue Jays extended their lead to 4-2, which felt like another dagger to an already struggling offense.
But Max Muncy pulled them back within one run with a solo homer in the eighth inning, and as the Dodgers were down to their final two outs in the game, Miguel Rojas blasted a game tying homer.
After each team had a scoreless 10th inning, Will Smith put the Dodgers ahead with a home run that ended up being the game winner. That was also the first extra innings home run during extra innings in Game 7 of the World Series in MLB history, according to OptaSTATS.

Smith also scored the Dodgers’ first run of the game after a leadoff double in the fourth inning. He crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly from Teoscar Hernández.
But after Smith gave them the lead in the 11th, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who had already pitched 1.2 scoreless innings on no days of rest, closed out the game to clinch the title for the Dodgers. Yamamoto threw 34 pitches in Game 7, just one day after throwing 96 over six innings in Game 6.
Smith is now a three-time World Series champion, and he’s had numerous postseason moments, but none compare to that swing.
Smith finished the game going 2-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI. Overall in the World Series, he hit .267/.353/.533 with two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, four runs scored.
In the postseason, Smith appeared in 15 games, batting .276/.364/.414 with two doubles, two home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored.
Will Smith’s historic championship win probability added
Smith’s home run increased the Dodgers’ win probability by 41.6%, making it the fifth-most impactful play of all-time by championship win probability added (cWPA). Rojas’ game-tying homer had a 35.5% cWPA, making it the 12th most impactful play in MLB history.
In addition, Alejandro Kirk’s game-ending double play decreased the Blue Jays win probability by 46.24%. The -46.24% cWPA checks in as the fourth-most impactful play in history.
The 2025 World Series became the second Fall Classic in history to have three plays in the top 15 of cWPA, joining the 1960 World Series when the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Yankees.
Game 7 of the 1960 World Series also holds the record for the most impactful play when Hal Smith homered with two runners on base, trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs in Game 7.
