The Los Angeles Dodgers returned from their trip across the northern border with the 2025 World Series tied at one game a piece and facing a stretch of three contests in a row following a travel day.
The Toronto Blue Jays hosted Game 1 and Game 2 of the World Series at Rogers Centre due to finishing with a better record than the Dodgers during the regular season.
The Dodgers crossed the boarder into the United States and arrived back in California on Sunday, but faced some delays to what manager Dave Roberts chalked up to “international stuff”.
Roberts sparked some controversy with his choice of words as he recapped the events.
“You know, I don’t want to get too far into it. I just arrived about 30 minutes ago. So there was some delays,” he said. “I don’t know if there was intent or not. But, man, the international stuff was a bear. But we made it. We made it.”
Roberts clarified that he did not intend to accuse any Canadian governing body of intentionally delaying the Dodgers’ flight after they defeated the Blue Jays in Game 2.

“I shouldn’t have said intent. I love Canada. I made the mistake of saying intent,” Roberts said on Monday. “It was a long day, a long trip. I’m very grateful to be in the World Series. And I shouldn’t have said intent. My apologies, sincerely.”
If the Dodgers don’t finish the World Series in Los Angeles, they will have to make a return trip back across the boarder into Canada for up to two games. The hope is that their next flight back home will be as back-to-back World Series champions. In that case, they would surely be OK with any further flight delays.
Dave Roberts enjoys Toronto
A day before the World Series began, Roberts reflected on his time in Canada as both a player and now as the Dodgers’ manager.
“I love Toronto,” he said. “Toronto’s a great city, great people. Canada is a great country. I remember being here with the Indians at the time and having a good series, and just playing the Blue Jays. Played here when I was with the Dodgers.
“Stayed in the hotel room in center field one time, so that was fun. But, yeah, I have nothing but fond memories, yes.”
