The 2017 season ended in heartbreaking fashion for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they were defeated by the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the World Series on their home field.
After a long offseason, baseball is finally back, with the Dodgers beginning Cactus League play against the Chicago White Sox at Camelback Ranch. Los Angeles serves as the home team on Friday.
Since the Dodgers played all the way into November last season, manager Dave Roberts has said he plans to ease some guys into things this spring, so none of the team’s five projected starting pitchers are set to pitch on Friday.
Instead, Wilmer Font makes his first start of the spring. The 2017 Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year with Triple-A Oklahoma City is battling for a roster spot this spring as he is out of Minor League options.
Other Dodgers that are scheduled to pitch include Yaisel Sierra, Pat Venditte, Daniel Corcino, C.C. Lee, Brian Moran and Edward Paredes.
Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig was scratched from Friday’s lineup due to minor hip soreness, although he is expected to be back on the field on Saturday.
Regular starters such as Chris Taylor, Corey Seager, Justin Turner, Cody Bellinger, Yasmani Grandal and Logan Forsythe are all in the lineup, although they will likely only play a couple innings in the opener before giving way to younger players.
Friday’s game is set to start at 12:05 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on SportsNet LA. For those that cannot view on SportsNet LA though, the game can be viewed via this stream.
