Dodgers Vs. Rockies Game Preview: Mookie Betts, Justin Turner In Lineup For Series Finale

After suffering a loss on Opening Day, the Los Angeles Dodgers have bounced back with consecutive victories against the Colorado Rockies and enter play Sunday in position to take the series at Coors Field.

Last season the Dodgers lost just one series — to the Rockies at Dodger Stadium. At worst they have guaranteed themselves of a four-game split.

Julio Urias is next to make his 2021 regular season debut and looks to build on what was a successful Spring Training. Urias is a career 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA in six games (four starts) at Coors Field.

He faced the Rockies in their home ballpark once last season, but didn’t factor into the decision after allowing two runs on three hits over 5.2 innings pitched.

The Rockies counter with Austin Gomber, who was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals as part of the Nolan Arenado trade. Gomber’s lone appearance at Coors Field saw him pick up a win after going six innings with two runs (on earned) allowed on Aug. 26, 2018.

Gomber pitched to a 3.20 ERA in six spring starts and surrendered four home runs over 19.2 innings. He faces a Dodgers lineup that sees the returns of Mookie Betts and Justin Turner, after both were given a night off Saturday.

Cody Bellinger and Corey Seager are out of the lineup for the series finale. That has Gavin Lux playing shortstop and Zach McKinstry making a start at second base. McKinstry provided the Dodgers with their first home run of the season on an inside-the-parker.

True to what Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he envisioned, Chris Taylor has continued to move around the field throughout the Opening Series. His start in center field marks a third different position played thus far in 2021.

The Dodgers placed Tony Gonsolin on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation and recalled Dennis Santana prior to first pitch. Gonsolin had yet to appear in a game this season.
