The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a slow start offensively to defeat the Colorado Rockies on Opening Day and now can earn their first series win of the season with another victory at Coors Field.

Tony Gonsolin follows Walker Buehler in the Dodgers’ Opening Series rotation. He last pitched on Monday against the L.A. Angels in the exhibition Freeway Series, throwing four innings and allowing three runs.

Gonsolin logged 9.1 innings over three appearances (two starts) during Spring Training and is a lifetime 0-1 in two games (one start) at Coors Field.

Gonsolin is looking to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2021 campaign that never truly got off the ground. He didn’t throw his first pitch until June 9, struggled upon returning and then was mired in inconsistency.

Despite the injuries and struggles to pitch deep into games last season, Gonsolin finished a respectable 4-1 with a 3.23 ERA across 15 games (13 starts). He also made three relief appearances against the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series.

The Rockies counter with German Márquez, who posted a 2.31 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in three Cactus League starts. The right-hander is coming off an All-Star season that saw him go 12-11 with a 4.40 ERA, 3.86 FIP and 1.27 WHIP in 180 innings pitched (32 starts).

Márquez allowed six runs and 12 hits in eight innings against the Dodgers (two games). He is 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 13 career starts against L.A.

Edwin Rios is in the Dodgers lineup as the designated hitter. Justin Turner is starting at third base, Max Muncy moves over to second base, and Gavin Lux is playing left field. Will Smith was is in the original lineup but the Dodgers issued a correction to have Austin Barnes starting at catcher.

Trea Turner enters play with a 20-game hitting streak that dates back to last season and is good for the longest active stretch in the Majors.
