Dodgers Vs. Pirates Game Preview: Tyler Glasnow Faces Former Team For First Time

After taking two of three from the Colorado Rockies, the Los Angeles Dodgers begin a six-game road trip with a matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

The Dodgers enter play with a 38-23 record, which is good for first place in the National League West. The Pirates, at 27-32, are fourth in the NL Central.

The Dodgers are starting their second road trip on the East Coast in as many weeks after going 3-3 against the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets. “We haven’t,” manager Dave Roberts answered when asked if he experienced a short homestand between two East Coast road trips before.

“I’m sure there’s some reasoning behind it, but I think with the balanced schedule now, there’s some things that are different for everyone.

“Some teams are playing 16 in a row, some teams have got to play six on the East Coast and fly back to the West Coast for three and then go back to the East Coast. It is what it is. We’re not going to overthink it.”

Tyler Glasnow makes his 13th start of the season and looks to build on a solid outing against the Mets. He was tabbed with a no-decision after allowing two runs on two hits in seven innings of work.

Glasnow is 6-3 with a 3.04 ERA, 2.65 FIP, 0.91 WHIP and 11.6 strikeouts per nine in 74 innings this season. The right-hander is making his first career start against the team that selected him in the fifth round of the 2011 MLB Draft.

Glasnow spent parts of three seasons with the Pirates from 2016-2018 before he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. The 30-year-old then pitched six seasons with the Rays before he was traded to the Dodgers this past December.

The Pirates counter with Jared Jones, who is in the midst of an impressive rookie season. Through 11 starts, he is 3-5 with a 3.55 ERA, 3.80 FIP, 1.01 WHIP and 9.9 strikeouts per nine in 63.1 innings pitched.

Jones, a Whittier, Calif., native, is making his first career start against the Dodgers.
