The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak against the San Diego Padres to 10 games, and now are in position to take the weekend series at Petco Park.
Tyler Anderson takes the mound for his first start of the season and third game overall. Anders began the year in the Dodgers bullpen and appeared in a piggyback scenario for Tony Gonsolin’s first two starts.
The left-hander is now getting his opportunity in the rotation due to Andrew Heaney going on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder discomfort. Heaney’s injury is not considered serious, but it’s plausible he will miss at least two starts.
The Padres counter with Yu Darvish, who has alternated between strong and subpar performances. He threw six no-hit innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 7, but then failed to make it out of the second inning against the San Francisco Giants his next start.
That was followed by holding the Atlanta Braves to just one run over 6.2 innings at the beginning of this week.
Darvish is a lifetime 2-3 with a 2.43 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in six starts against the Dodgers.
He faces a lineup that is the same order from the series opener. Mookie Betts and Max Muncy combined for three home runs as each tries to emerge from early-season slumps.
