The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres traded eighth-inning rallies and now play in front of a national audience for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

However, it’s not the finale between the two teams as they are in the midst of a wraparound series at Petco Park that concludes with a Monday afternoon affair.

As the Dodgers look to guarantee themselves at least a series split, they face former teammate Rich Hill in his Padres debut. The veteran left-hander was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates, along with Ji Man Choi.

Hill 7-10 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 22 starts this season. He last pitched on July 30, holding the Philadelphia Phillies to two runs over five innings.

The Padres are Hill’s 13th team in his long career. He pitched for the Dodgers from 2016-2019 after being acquired with Josh Reddick from the Oakland Athletics at the trade deadline.

The Padres face Lance Lynn in his second start since being traded to the Dodgers. Lynn went seven innings and allowed three runs — each coming via a solo homer — against the Oakland Athletics at Dodger Stadium last week.

Although Lynn’s home run woes remained an issue, he provided the Dodgers with needed length and generally pitched well in the outing.

Lynn is backed by a Dodgers lineup that is still without Max Muncy because of a left wrist contusion. Manager Dave Roberts hoped Muncy would be able to start after being limited to pinch-running through the first two games against the Padres.

Prior to the game, the Dodgers recalled Bryan Hudson from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Michael Grove on the 15-day injured list due to right lat tightness.

In an odd schedule quirk, the Dodgers have lost 10 games in a row on Sunday.
