Dodgers Vs. Padres Game Preview: Justin Turner Out Of Lineup

The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing their penultimate road game of the season as they look to bounce back against the San Diego Padres and avoid a series loss at Petco Park. The Padres have yet to win a series against the Dodgers this season.

The Dodgers went 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left 14 on base in their extra-innings loss, along with more instances of sloppy defensive play. Manager Dave Roberts nonetheless downplayed concern with the normally steady-handed Dodgers having lapses of late.

Some of those have come with Julio Urías on the mound, and in one instance the left-hander sought out Gavin Lux and Trea Turner to offer words of encouragement.

Urías enters Wednesday’s start at 17-7 with a National League-best 2.25 ERA. He faced the Padres in back-to-back starts earlier this month, holding them to a combined three runs over 13 innings pitched.

Much the damage Urías allowed in those starts was to Manny Machado, who is a career 7-for-23 with four home runs against the Dodgers starter.

Justin Turner is not in the Dodgers lineup despite Joe Musgrove being on the mound for the Padres. Turner appeared to be somewhat hobbled in the series opener after falling down in the first inning. Roberts said after Tuesday’s loss that he anticipated Turner being the designated hitter for the next couple games.

Musgrove is 10-7 with a 3.12 ERA and is coming off consecutive impressive outings. Those followed the right-hander getting knocked around a bit by the Dodgers as he was chased in the sixth inning on Sept. 11.

Prior to the game the Dodgers activated Yency Almonte and placed Phil Bickford on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder fatigue.

A win on Wednesday would set a new Dodgers franchise record for most in a single season at 107. They previously reached 106 wins during the 2019 and 2021 seasons.
