Dodgers Vs. Nationals Game Preview: David Peralta Batting Leadoff In Place Of Mookie Betts

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reached the penultimate game of their road trip and are in position to clinch a series win against the Washington Nationals. However, first pitch for the scheduled 1:05 p.m. PT start has been delayed due to inclement weather.

Although a CT scan came back negative and Mookie Betts was only diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left foot, the National League MVP candidate is again out of the Dodgers lineup as he likely won’t play until Monday.

Chris Taylor was in the leadoff spot for the first game against the Nationals, but with the Dodgers now facing a right-handed starter, David Peralta fills in for Betts. Though, it’s Jason Heyward who is playing right field.

Also in the lineup is Kolten Wong, who is making his second start since being added onto the Dodgers roster. Wong signed a Minor League contract with the team last month and was encouraged by the work he did with the organization’s hitting coaches at Camelback Ranch.

The Dodgers look to find success against Jake Irvin, who is 3-5 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 21 starts in his rookie season.

Irvin is coming off somewhat of a shaky outing as he allowed three runs on four hits and three walks in just five innings pitched against the Miami Marlins. Irvin otherwise has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last six starts.

Meanwhile, Bobby Miller takes the mound for the Dodgers as he tries to build off an impressive performance against the Atlanta Braves. He held the best offense in baseball to just one run over a career-high seven innings.

“We really needed this win. I was really locked in,” Miller said after the game. “I had a great feeling going into this game. Probably the most locked in I’ve ever been so far. I knew I needed my best stuff.

“Still, I don’t think the breaking balls were that great but luckily I had the changeup to keep them off the fastball a little bit.”
