The Los Angeles Dodgers welcome Max Muncy back to their lineup after he missed the series opener against the Miami Marlins, and Kolten Wong makes his first start since joining the team at the beginning of September when active rosters expanded.
Muncy was removed from the finale of the Atlanta Braves series due to a left shoulder injury and wasn’t available on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Wong has one hit — a home run — in three plate appearances over three games off the bench thus far with L.A. With the Dodgers facing a right-handed starter, Wong is slotted in as their designated hitter.
Lance Lynn is on the mound for what he hopes is a rebound performance. Lynn allowed runs over just 4.1 innings to the Atlanta Braves on August 31 at Dodger Stadium. He’s struggled a bit in consecutive outings and is now 4-1 with a 3.57 ERA and 1.18 WHIP as a member of the Dodgers.
The Marlins are starting JT Chargois as an opener, and he’s likely to pitch multiple innings against his former team. Chargois spent parts of the 2018 and 2019 seasons as a member of the Dodgers bullpen.
Chargois has a 3.78 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 33 innings for Miami. The right-hander has given up only two earned runs over his last six innings in five appearances.
Edward Cabrera is expected to be the bulk pitcher for the Marlins. Cabrera enjoyed a good 2022 season where he was 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA, but has struggled this year, with a 5-6 record, 4.79 ERA and 1.46 WHIP.
Cabrera gives up a lot of walks and the Dodgers are second in Major League Baseball drawing them. The Dodgers’ patient approach should be a key factor if Cabrera does indeed get the bulk innings.
