Dodgers Vs. Giants Game Preview: Miguel Vargas Called Up Following Trade Deadline

After taking the opener at Oracle Park, the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their four-game series with the San Francisco Giants. First pitch comes at 6:45 p.m. PT, which is less than four hours after an eventful MLB trade deadline.

The Dodgers were linked to several players, but wound up adding one player to their Major League club by acquiring Joey Gallo from the New York Yankees for pitching prospect Clayton Beeter.

They also traded Jake Lamb to the Seattle Mariners and Mitch White to the Toronto Blue Jays. In addition to their moves, the club called up Miguel Vargas, one of their top prospects, from Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he is not in the lineup.

The Giants were also active, trading away Darin Ruf and Curt Casali, but held onto Joc Pederson and Carlos Rodón, who were both considered candidates to be dealt.

Now that the dust has settled, the Dodgers send Tyler Anderson to the mound for his 18th start and 20th overall appearance of the season. The left-hander enters with a scoreless streak of 19 innings after throwing seven shutout frames in his last start against the Colorado Rockies.

Anderson is 11-1 with a 2.61 ERA, 3.21 FIP and 0.99 WHIP in 110.1 innings pitched this season. The 2022 All-Star allowed just one unearned run in his only start against the Giants on July 22, and for his career, owns a 3.91 ERA in nine games versus San Francisco.

The Giants counter with Alex Wood, who looks to build on a solid start against the Chicago Cubs. He gave up just two runs on two hits in 6.2 innings pitched en route to his seventh win of the season.

Wood brings with him into Tuesday’s start a 7-8 record with a 4.11 ERA, 3.46 FIP and 1.21 WHIP in 100.2 innings pitched (20 games).

The 31-year-old has struggled against his former team this season, yielding five runs in 9.1 innings of work (two starts). However, in 10 career games against the Dodgers, he has gone a respectable 2-4 with a 3.44 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 49.2 innings pitched.

Tuesday’s game is a Dodgers national TV broadcast on TBS.
