The Los Angeles Dodgers quietly dominated their way to a 5-0 win over the San Francisco Giants in the series opener, and now get Gavin Lux back in the lineup for the first time since Sept. 1.
With the National League West wrapped up, the Dodgers have their sights set on health and continuing to hold off the Houston Astros for the best record in baseball. The Dodgers’ 99-44 record has them five games ahead of the Astros entering play Saturday.
Manager Dave Roberts and the Dodgers get to check off another box on their to-do list with Lux returning from neck discomfort as it’s believed the issues are behind him.
Lux is quietly having the best season of his career as he’s batting .293/.368/.428 with a 127 wRC+ in 115 games. One notable area of improvement for of Lux has come with an ability to make consistent contact and being in the 86th percentile of chase rate.
Roberts has praised Lux for his consistent at-bat quality and ability to work a count while shortening up when the situation requires, drawing parallels to Freddie Freeman.
Julio Urías gets the ball for what is his 28th start of the season. Urías is 16-7 with a 2.30 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 3.73 FIP.
A Giants bullpen game is being started by John Brebbia, who is 6-1 with a 2.83 ERA. Brebbia allowed one hit and tossed a scoreless inning when he started against the Dodgers on Sept. 6. The start Saturday is Brebbia’s sixth of the season
Prior to the game the Dodgers recalled Andre Jackson from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Tyler Anderson on the paternity list.
