Dodgers Vs. Giants Game Preview: ESPN Sunday Night Baseball National Broadcast

Weather permitting, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants meet for the final time this season. The series finale at Oracle Park is a national broadcast for ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

With a win, the Dodgers would not only complete a series sweep but finish 15-4 (.789) against the Giants this season, good for their best record in head-to-head matchups since going 10-2 (.833) in 1899.

Andrew Heaney is on the mound as he continues to try curbing recent home run troubles. Heaney did allow just one homer in his last start, an improvement from tying a career high by giving up four on Sept. 5, but he’s been susceptible to the long ball in five consecutive outings.

Heaney nonetheless enters 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 12 starts this season, and he’s averaging a career-best 13.3 strikeouts per nine innings. The southpaw has collected at least six strikeouts in his past five starts, and in six of the last eight.

Heaney is 0-1 and allowed seven runs on 10 hits, including four home runs, in two starts against the Giants this season. He has 15 strikeouts across 9.1 innings pitched in those outings.

The Giants counter with Alex Cobb, who is facing the Dodgers a fourth time this year. Cobb allowed a combined 10 runs in the three prior outings but only was tabbed with one loss.

If rain prevents the Dodgers and Giants from playing Sunday, the game conceivably could be rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 26, which is a common off day between the two. However, that would amount to the Dodgers playing 18 games in 17 days to close out the regular season.
