Dodgers Vs. Cardinals Game Preview: Max Scherzer Bouncing Back From Hamstring Tightness

The Los Angeles Dodgers remain on the road as they look to rebound from losing a series to the San Francisco Giants. They are slated for an early afternoon matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals on Labor Day in what marks Albert Pujols’ second return to Busch Stadium.

Pujols and the L.A. Angeles made a trip to St. Louis in 2019, and he was treated to multiple standing ovations along with cheers after hitting a home run. Pujols is not focused on the individual aspect of facing the Cardinals, but is looking forward to a second return.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers anticipate Max Scherzer being able to pitch without any limitations after recovering from right hamstring tightness. Because of that Scherzer threw just 76 pitches over six shutout innings last week against the Atlanta Braves.

Scherzer said it was something he’d dealt with prior and didn’t anticipate any issues moving forward. He received treatment and threw the normal between-starts bullpen session.

Scherzer last faced the Cardinals on April 21, throwing six shutout innings. He’s been nothing short of impressive with the Dodgers, going 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in six starts.

The right-hander traveled ahead of the team, who didn’t arrive in St. Louis until the early morning hours because of playing an ESPN Sunday Night Baseball telecast.

The Cardinals counter with Miles Mikolas, who is making just his fifth start of the season. Mikolas is 0-1 with a 4.41 ERA and has not pitched more than five innings in any outing thus far.

Mikolas is a combined 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in five career games (two starts) against the Dodgers, facing them in 2012 and 2019.

Prior to first pitch the Dodgers called up Neftalí Féliz and optioned Andrew Vasquez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
