Last week the Los Angeles Dodgers had Cody Bellinger, Willie Calhoun and Alex Verdugo named to the West roster for the 2017 Fall Stars Game. However on Thursday, Verdugo was replaced by Chicago White Sox outfielder Courtney Hawkins.
Verudgo did not participate in the Arizona Fall League showcase, because he is joining Mexico’s U23 team to play in an exhibition series against Japan. Bellinger, Calhoun and Verdugo were instrumental in leading Double-A Tulsa this season, and they joined Triple-A Oklahoma City for the Pacific Coast League playoffs.
Bellinger started at first base and hit second in the West lineup, Calhoun started at second base and batted eighth, and the duo combined to provide more than enough fireworks.
Calhoun went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, and was named MVP of the Fall Stars Game. He connected on a two-run single in the third inning:
Then in the fifth inning, the power-hitting second baseman clubbed a home run:
Not to be outdone, Bellinger crushed a hanging slider from a lefty for a towering home run:
In his first at-bat of the game, Bellinger drove a fly ball to deep center field that was caught in front of the wall. West easily defeated the East roster, 12-4.
