Not long after the Los Angeles Dodgers completed a shutout of the New York Mets in the opener of their three-game series at Citi Field, Yasiel Puig ventured into New Jersey to pay a visit to the MLB Network Studios.

The timing of his appearance on MLB Tonight could not have been much better as the Dodgers were not only fresh off a win, but Puig also contributed with a solo home run off Jacob deGrom in the second inning.

The homer was Puig’s 20th this season, which set a new career high. It broke his personal-best mark of 19 home runs hit as a rookie in 2013. He slugged a 21st homer in Saturday’s come-from-behind win.

During his time with the MLB Network analysts, Puig went over his batting stance and approach at the plate and pointed to Adrian Beltre’s accomplishment of reaching 3,000 career hits as motivation.

Puig is batting .260/.332/.483 with 13 doubles and 53 RBI. The bulk of his starts this season have come while batting near the bottom of the Dodgers lineup. Puig’s .815 on-base plus slugging percentage would be his third-best clip.
