The Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers are off to a 44-32 start this season, currently ranked second in the American Northern division. As a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers rich farm system, budding stars like Willie Calhoun, O’Koyea Dickson and Alex Verdugo have helped carry OKC thus far.
Oklahoma City faced off against the Memphis Redbirds on Tuesday, and Calhoun provided another power spark. With one runner on base in the top of the fourth, Calhoun delivered his 17th home run of the season to Oklahoma City a lead.
The Redbirds tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, though Oklahoma City went on to escape with a 3-2 victory. The win was their sixth in a row.
Calhoun has been a steady presence in the lineup, batting .295/.337/.571 with 15 doubles, five triples and 48 RBIs to go with his 17 home runs over 70 games. Calhoun has homered in three of his past six games entering play on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Calhoun put together a stretch where he hit a home run in three consecutive games.
With the Dodgers having plenty of infield depth, Calhoun has been afforded the opportunity to develop and a steady pace in the Minors. He made strides during Spring Training to improve defensively, and ranks among top prospects in the Dodgers organization this season.
