The Vin Scully ceremony at Dodger Stadium celebrated the longtime voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers on what was an emotional night for players and fans alike.

Remembering Scully began with a video that featured countless memorable calls from his 67-year career, including of course Kirk Gibson’s walk-off home run against the Oakland Athletics in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series.

Also featured was the pregame ceremony the Dodgers held for Scully heading into his final weekend of home games in 2016. Kevin Costner served as emcee that evening, and was accompanied on the field by Clayton Kershaw and several other dignitaries.

The video montage was followed by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts leading players and coaches onto the field so he could address fans. Roberts ended his speech by inviting the Dodger Stadium crowd to announce Scully’s customary, “It’s time for Dodger baseball.”

The Dodgers had an announced attendance of 52,714, good for their 12th sellout of the season.

“It was getting pretty emotional,” Roberts said after the Dodgers’ 8-1 win. “I know Vin’s family was here, and you just felt his presence. To have the Padres be in-tune, our guys and then obviously 50,000 fans, the Dodgers did a really nice job.

“It just speaks to how much love the Dodger family has for Vin. I heard just the other day, he’s the only one that’s undefeated versus Twitter. I don’t think you can find a bad word said about him. It was a very special moment.”

Dodgers unveil banner for Scully

Along with placing miniature versions of Scully’s microphone logo on various exhibits throughout Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers installed new displays outside the press box, and Joe Davis and Orel Hershiser unveiled a banner that read, “Vin- We’ll miss you!”

It took inspiration from the “I’ll miss you! -Vin” banner that hung from the TV booth as Scully neared retirement.
