After the discouraging news regarding Clayton Kershaw’s trip to the disabled list, the Los Angeles Dodgers turned it around series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers after splitting the first two contests.
Kenta Maeda turned in six strong innings and the offense provided some much needed run support en route to taking the rubber match and salvaging the seven-game road trip. With Joc Pederson still unavailable due to a sore right shoulder, Trayce Thompson earned a second consecutive start in center field.
While Thompson has cooled off in recent weeks, he previously was one of the Dodgers’ most consistent bats and power threats. He provided a reminder of that in the second inning with the game still scoreless.
Thompson broke that by crushing an 0-1 pitch for a two-run homer, which was his first home run since June 16, and 12th this season:
Then with two outs in the fourth inning, Yasmani Grandal hit a booming solo home run to extend the Dodgers’ lead:
The Dodgers’ third and final home run of the game was hit by Corey Seager, whose two-run shot in the fifth pushed the lead to 5-1:
The Dodgers went through a stretch of 14 consecutive games with at least one home run, and ranked 11th in the Majors with 37 home runs hit during the month of June.
