The Los Angeles Dodgers made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason just before the start of Spring Training, acquiring both Mookie Betts and David Price in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox.

Unfortunately, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman has yet to see the fruits of his labor as the season was put on hold a few weeks later due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

After almost four months off, Major League Baseball is finally set to return with teams in the process of holding workouts for Summer Camp, and Opening Day scheduled for July 23 and 24. The Dodgers are expected to face the San Francisco Giants on July 23.

The road to get to this point was anything but smooth, although baseball being played in 2020 is great news for everybody, especially the Dodgers. Betts is in his final year of club control so if the season were to be cancelled, there was a chance he would never put on a Dodger uniform in an actual game.

Thankfully it never got to that point, and Betts and the Dodgers are getting ready to embark on a journey that they hope ends in the first championship in L.A. since 1988.

As players get set to return to the field, MLB released a hype video for the 2020 season and Betts was one of the players featured:

With a former MVP in Betts at the top and a current MVP in Cody Bellinger in the middle, the Dodgers have arguably the best lineup in all of baseball in 2020. Add in the universal designated hitter, and they have no holes 1-9.

Even if they are not able to achieve their goal of winning a World Series in 2020, Friedman is on record saying they hope to re-sign Betts to a long-term contract this winter. If they are able to do that then the Dodgers will be a force in the National League for years to come with all of their other young talent in the organization.

But the focus right now remains on 2020.
