Los Angeles Dodgers top pitching prospect Julio Urias is scheduled to make his Major League debut Friday night against the reigning National League champion New York Mets at Citi Field.
The matchup marks the start of a second series between the Dodgers and Mets this season, with the clubs splitting a four-game set earlier this month at Dodger Stadium. For the Dodgers, it’s the opener of a grueling seven-game road trip that will also take them to Chicago for a series with the Cubs.
Urias’ debut ranks among the most anticipated in Dodgers franchise history. Baseball’s top pitching prospect dominated with Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 4-1 over eight games (seven starts).
Urias left behind a Pacific Coast League-leading 1.10 ERA and 0.78 WHIP, and a streak of 27 consecutive scoreless innings. He’s opposed by Jacob deGrom, who enters 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA, 3.38 FIP and 1.24 WHIP in seven starts this season.
deGrom allowed two runs on eight hits and had four strikeouts over seven innings of work against the Dodgers this season. He didn’t earn a decision in a game the Mets lost. New York enters Friday’s matchup 4-1 in their last five games, while the Dodgers are on a season-high four-game winning streak.
For those outside of the Los Angeles/New York market, Urias’ big night will be streamed live online by Yahoo! Sports as part of their Free Game Of The Day. MLB.com is also carrying the game online as the free MLB Plus broadcast, which is data-driven and incorporates advanced analytics and broadcast enhancements.
