As one of the top teams for several years running, the Los Angeles Dodgers have had multiple players branch out into marketing campaigns, commercials, TV appearances and other endeavors off the field.
In addition to various players securing those types of agreements, Cody Bellinger and Will Smith were featured in a “We Play Loud” campaign that MLB unveiled at the start of the 2019 postseason. Unfortunately for the Dodgers, their offseason came much sooner than anticipated.
The disappointing loss led to Bellinger and Kiké Hernandez deeming the 2019 season a failed one, though both voiced optimism over the direction of the franchise. Before they return to the field, Hernandez took swings in a campaign for the new “Call of Duty Modern Warfare” video game.
The commercial called for him to don a pair of night vision goggles to keep with the game’s theme, and he proceeded to hit a home run.

After filling a utility role over through the first five years of his career, Hernandez went into this season as the Dodgers’ starting second baseman. However, he endured some struggles at the plate and again wound up being relied on in a versatile role.
Hernandez appeared in 130 games and hit .237/.304/.411 with 19 doubles, 17 home runs and a career-best 64 RBI. He also stole four bases, which represented a single-season high.
Hernandez figures to again spend time all over the field in 2020. The Dodgers presumably may look to keep Gavin Lux at second base for an opportunity to play every day, or Max Muncy could wind up there if Justin Turner is moved to first base because of the signing of Anthony Rendon.
Hernandez is among the 12 Dodgers eligible for salary arbitration this winter. It’s the third and final time for the 28-year-old as he’s due to become a free agent after the 2020 season.
