Thursday should have marked the beginning of the 2020 Major League Baseball season with teams across the league hosting Opening Day.
The Los Angeles Dodgers were set to take on the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium, with Clayton Kershaw making his franchise-record ninth career Opening Day start. But that unfortunately did not take place due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that is currently sweeping the world.
It forced the start of 2020 MLB season to be postponed with people needing to stay at home for the time being. MLB still did what it could to make what should have been Opening Day special, as they streamed famous games from each team across all different platforms.
The Dodgers also did the same, playing some of their best Opening Day games like 2013 and 2019 on their social media channels and SportsNet LA.
The league is also doing its best to promote good habits such as social distancing during this time so that the country can get past this and get back to living a regular life. They put out a video to celebrate “Opening Day at Home,” which was narrated by Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout.
They also put out a Spanish version of the video titled “Opening Day En Casa,” and that one was narrated by Dodgers legendary broadcaster Jaime Jarrín.

Jarrín is getting set to enter his 62nd season as the Spanish-language broadcaster of the Dodgers. The 2020 season is his final year under his current contract, although if he wants to continue past this year, there’s no doubt he will be back in 2021.
Especially if this season is shortened or cancelled altogether due to coronavirus. Players and the league seem to be on the same page about getting as many games as possible in once they are able to play, although that obviously is still a long ways off.
